How Does Exercise Help Me Detox?

-Author: Andrew Pasquella

exerciseAs you flip through The Detox Blog you’ll find the common theme that detoxing should really be a lifestyle. It’s rare for a nutritional supplement company to stress a lifestyle approach. Most companies want you to believe there is a magic pill that will make your dreams come true without any extra work on your part, oh, and it will all happen fast! I really think it’s important to remember that nutritional supplements are just that, a supplement to your everyday life. While I believe that nutritional supplements, at least the right ones, should be an absolute important piece of your lifestyle, there are other elements that need come together. It’s a complimentary approach where each element will compliment and feed off the others. The four basic elements are nutrition, supplementation, exercise and spirit. I’m sure you’ll hear about these four elements from me again and again, and I’ll talk about each as the blog progresses.

Exercise is important for a good detox program for a few reasons. When you exercise you breathe deeply which is a good thing as long as you’re not exercising next to a busy road or smokestacks, you don’t want to breathe in more toxins than you’re getting rid of! When you breathe you help oxygenate the cells which can help them do their jobs, one being detoxifying. Your lungs also expel carbon dioxide, a natural by product a functioning body. Deep breathing and physical activity also help stimulate your lymphatic system which has no pump system so it relies on physical activity to move throughout your system. Your lymph fluid moves around your body collecting toxins and other harmful waste products to carry away so a strong flow is a good thing. Hopefully you’re sweating at least some when you exercise because sweat can remove toxins by carrying them to the surface of your skin. When you exercise on a regular basis you can reduce your body fat. Fat is where the majority of our toxins are stored. When the fat starts to go away you will release toxins back into your system so it’s very important those toxins get flushed out of your system once and for all- that’s when the other elements of the detox lifestyle kick in such as a good herbal detox supplement and organic foods. Proper nutrition, supplementation, and further exercise will help you drop the pounds and the toxins.

It’s important to know how to exercise properly. I’ve trained many people who didn’t know the first thing about working out and that’s ok, that’s why they’re personal trainers out there! Joining a gym can be a daunting proposition but trainers are professionals who will teach you proper techniques and practices which are very worthwhile. You can do more damage than good if you exercise improperly. Even if you only want to work out at home or outdoors I suggest meeting with a trainer who can help you design a program for your needs. Working out today is not just pumping iron and running! You can incorporate many different practices into your lifestyle. Yoga, for instance is a fantastic detox workout. Many of the poses involve twisting and turning which massages your internal organs which helps the detox process. A gym membership can give you access to their classes so you can try different things and find what you like.
